Damn Fine People

With the last major hurdle over, things are really winding down. My Chi-town time is really getting limited. Instead of being focused and anxious about the million things I have to do or plan for, I care more about relishing my time with family and friends. It's true that I should be doing this all the time. People ask me if I'm excited and I am but how can I be 100% excited when that means I am leaving behind a city with all my loved ones, sacrificing security for the unknown?

Besides spending time with family and friends, I'm trying to work out as much as possible. As I try to kick it into gear these days, it's been a realization that 'hey, this losing weight and getting fit is harder than it looks!'. I've lost 5 pounds last year and have been working on another 5 pounds. The first year of the M.B.A. program is suppose to be so intense that there is no time for anything, much less working out. I'm a bit worried about that...stress, no time, new environment...could lead to trouble in terms of excess pounds.

I've also been scrounging around for 'must haves' for Espana. As most of you might know, I have a little problem with shopping and cute things. I am the supreme collector of 'STUFF'. You name it, I probably have 10 of it. So, how the heck am I going to fit what I need in 2 checked-in luggages, 1 carry-on, and 1 personal item on my flight? Uhhh...it will be a miracle. I equate it with Moses and the parting of the Red Sea. I really wish I could transport most of my bedroom with me. I find security in 'STUFF' and lots of it.

Another concern of mine is keeping in touch with all you damn fine, wonderful people who I've met in various circumstances and managed to develop relationships with....and yes, call you good friends. Like me, most people are probably lazy about e-mailing and calling internationally is a pain and expensive. IMing is fine but it's not as personal and I'm afraid of getting carpal tunnel syndrome. There was a scare during my ComEd project when my arm went numb (stop laughing, Mia). My plan is to keep in touch with you through free Internet calls which seems pretty easy. Follow these simple steps (might be fine tuned in the future when I actually test this process):
  1. Buy a cheap headset ($10-40) which includes an earphone and microphone. I just ordered a neat-o Bluetooth (wireless) headset to work with my Bluetooth-enabled laptop. I'll let you know if it works or not. I suppose people that have Bluetooth headsets for their mobile phones could also use it with a Bluetooth-enabled laptop/computer. No idea what Bluetooth is? It's purdy neat. Read up on it at http://www.bluetooth.com/. You can buy a headset at www.amazon.com or at www.buy.com.
  2. If you don't have YAHOO! Messenger (http://messenger.yahoo.com/ get the Beta version), MSN Messenger (http://messenger.msn.com/download/), AOL Messenger (http://www.aol.com/aim/downloadaim.adp), or Skype (http://www.skype.com/download/), download them at the respective websites.
  3. Then e-mail me with your account info as I don't want to broadcast my info here.
  4. Then we coordinate a time to chat or see each other online, connect headsets, and we can chat away fo FREE.

Although there will be thousands of miles, a whole ocean, and a 5-9-hour time difference separating us, I still want to be involved with your lives, be silly with, laugh, cry, share stories, shoot the sh*t, and....what else? oh yeah, continue to make fun of you. Hah. So NO EXCUSES about not being in touch with me (period) OR not visiting me (double period). The alternative? I sic my unforgiving, carnivore, 200 pound dog on you.
