Is this a BUS????

Kathy: "Do you want to go to Sofia?"
Me: "What is that? A bar?"
Kathy: "Nooooo. It's the capital of Bulgaria."
Me: "Oh."

Ah, don't you love plain ignorance?! It's great learning new things! It's true I have no money and no job but I shrugged and said, Why not? I went last weekend with a group from school hosted by Bulgarian classmate, Milko. It was great fun! Milko is a fabulous host - we ate at good restaurants (food is amazing! come to think of it, everywhere BUT Spain has good food!) and went to the nicest lounges and clubs.

New on the shitlist: ALITALIA. Alitalia absolutely sucks! 3 out of 4 flights we took were delayed. On the way there, the flight was delayed and we barely had time to catch the connecting flight. Of course, I made the wise decision to check in my bag and of course, the bag didn't make onto the connecting flight. I thought for sure the bag would come later in the night....nope...OK, for sure the same flight the next day...nope...Finally I got it the following night. I've learned my lesson - no checking in bags for weekend trips. THEN on the way back, the flight was delayed and we DID miss our connecting flight. So we spend 4 hours more in the Rome airport and instead of getting in at 6PM we get in at 11:30PM. Swell. We did get a voucher for a meal in the cafeteria. Geeee, thanks.

Funny story: On one of the damn buses to the plane back to Barcelona FINALLY, Milko sees the Spanish guys run off to another bus. Frantic, he yells out "Perdone...Esto es el autobus???". Translation "Excuse me..... Is this a bus???". The guy nods his head...."Yes!" Of course, he meant to ask if this was the RIGHT bus. To be fair, Milko's Spanish is excellent...that's why it made it even funnier!

Superfan: So I arrive in my flat at midnight in Barcelona (thank God!), only to drop off my stuff, have a quick chat with my flatmate, and off I go to the bar to meet some friends and watch the SUPERBOWL and Da BEARS!!!! Whoo hoo! We're 7 hours ahead and so kickoff started at 12:30AM. Saturday night I went to bed at 6AM; wake up at 11AM and had been travelling for some 12 hours or so and STILL made it to watch the Superbowl. I was disappointed we didn't win but it was AWESOME we made it. I had faithfully gone to the bar for 2 Sundays to watch the playoff games versus the Seahawks (great game though was nervous the whole time) and the Saints; both time watching it with people rooting for the other team. Great fun! The bar had some really crazy fans - this big guy standing and yelling at every big play and this crazy blonde woman who stood up on the table to yell at everyone. There was this really tense moment when the crazy blonde almost got into a fight with a couple. I mean, seriously! This guy threw a magazine at the lady with full force. Anyway, I loved the Prince halftime show. He's awesome! Mia and I went with Chris and Roy for his concert and it was really really good. Too bad I didn't see any of the commercials :( Were they any good? 5 minutes to go and just disgusted at Grossman's horrible interceptions, I finally went home to sleep at 4:30AM. And so, I skipped my first class - all for the beloved Bears.

Same birthday: I discovered on the trip that this Spanish guy, Lluis, pronounced like "Juice" or "Zumo" as we like to call him, has the EXACT same birthday as me!!!!!

Big party: So that means big joint birthday along with my friend Luz's birthday the weekend of May 11th!!!!! Venga!!!! Come to Barcelona to partaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!

Message to those not coming to Barcelona: You suck but I'll love you anyway. See ya back in the states for hopefully just a visit....

Job Huntin': ....cuz I'm trying to find a job in Europe. Does anyone have any contacts? I'm looking to work for a non-profit organization especially in economic development in developing countries. Ideally, I'd like to be based in Europe and be able to travel to developing countries from time to time. I've applied to Amnesty International in the U.K., The Global Fund in Geneva, Switzerland, and Acumen Fund - NY and a project in a developing country. Next up are Ashoka, Peacepath Consulting, and The Skoll Foundation. Since I lived in London over the summer, I wanted to try something different...like Geneva or Rome...Holland has a lot of development stuff going on. What do you think??!!

OK, gotta run! As always, I'm procrastinating as I should be working on a cover letter!

Besos!
